Ann Nolan Clark

Hoofprint on the Wind

Viking, New York, 1972, 128 pp, illus Robert Parker

Patcheen lives on a barren island, and he’s seen a young Connemara there who’s perfect. What
puzzles him is why he’s the only one who’s seen the colt.

Ann Nolan Clark (1896 - 1995) was born in New Mexico, and educated at New Mexico Highlands University. She taught the children of the Tesuque pueblo to read, and when she found the school drastically underfunded, wrote her own books for it. Several of her titles were published by the United States Bureau of Native Indian Affairs. Her book In My Mother’s House was named as a Caldecott Honor book in 1942. She wrote, as far as I am aware, one horse book, Hoofprint on the Wind.

Finding the book: findable but varies in price.
