Martin Gale

A Pony Named Nubbin

Viking, 1939, 73 pp, illus Margaret Van Doren

Nubbin is a very small Shetland pony. She is taught how to be a riding school pony, but she is,
as Shetlands are, very stubborn. She doesn’t relent until Sue starts to visit her.

Martin Gale was a pseudonym used by Barbara van Doren, who also wrote under the name Barbara Klaw. The books she wrote as Martin Gale are aimed at younger children.

Finding the book: the book is not hugely easy to find in the USA.
