The Cherokee Strip is to be opened up for homesteading.  David and his family need a faster horse to have
a chance of getting the land athey want, and strike lucky when a badly treated horse follows their wagon
into camp.

Jean Bailey (1904-1992) was born in Kansas.  She was a teacher and a librarian, and wrote several children’s book.  During the Second World War she served as a lieutenant in the Waves.  Cherokee Bill won the William Allen White Children’s Book Prize in 1955.
