Jean Bailey

Cherokee Bill - Oklahoma Pacer

Abingdon Cokesbury Press, 1952, 190 pp, illus Pers Crowell

The Cherokee Strip is to be opened up for homesteading. David and his family need a faster
horse to have a chance of getting the land that they want, and they strike lucky when a badly
treated horse follows their wagon into camp.

Jean Bailey (1904 - 1992) was born in Kansas. She was a teacher and a librarian, and wrote several children’s books. During the Second World War she served as a lieutenant in the Waves. Cherokee Bill won the William Allen White Children’s Book Prize in 1955.

Finding the book: the book is very easy to find. It wasn’t published in the UK.
