CINNABAR, THE ONE O'CLOCK FOX - Rand McNally & Company, NY., 1956, 154 pp., illustrated in black & white by Wesley Dennis. Okay, it's not a horse story but this is a fun story of a fox and fox hunting at the time of George Washington. Cinnabar is a gallant fox who is busy raising his family of four fox pups, Rascal, Pascal, Merry and Mischief with his mate, Vicky. They have a den complete with stove, rocking chair, table, pots and pans, etc. and an hour glass so Cinnabar knows when to show up for the hounds and the hunt. Obviously, Cinnabar is a rather anthropormorphic fox but this is a good story of one hunt that Cinnabar leads MFH Washington, his huntsman, horses and hounds on a wild chase over hills and dale, through the river and fields and still manages to escape while capturing a plump rooster for Vicky and their cubs for supper. There were no full color illustrations in this book except for the enpapers which pictures the fox family singing and playing John Peel. The cover illustration is the head of Cinnabar with his hour glass. I'm not aware that this story ever came out in paperback but was only issued in a hardcover edition.
