The pictures shows Lorna Hill, taken by a local Newcastle paper at the time of her notorious court case when she was brought to court for destroying the gin traps that were set on the local garth near her husband's vicarage.
One had mutilated her cat (shown in thepicture)and Lorna had rooted up the rest and thrown them in the river. The RSPCA fought for her and gin traps were outlawed by parliament as a result of her stand. She was a very brave and determined woman.
