Eleven Plus

The series for this age group that’s made the greatest impact in the UK recently is Stacy Gregg’s Pony Club Secrets.  One of the best authors, Alyssa Brugman is not (yet) available in the UK, but through the wonders of the Internet her books can be found.  She is really very well worth the effort.  Lauren Brooke’s Heartland series continues to be re-issued, and Chestnut Hill is still being published here (though interestingly l gather it no longer appears in the US).  Pony Magazine author Janet Rising has now hit the bookstands with her new series (a good read), K M Peyton has now written a trilogy set during the Roman occupation of Britain, and there are good American authors out there too.

Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse is one of the best modern horse stories you can find.  I can’t recommend it highly enough.
