It’s a bit of a moral tale this, Catherine Spencer’s only pony book: you may well want a pony, but neglect your schoolwork at your peril! The illustrations are by Cecil G Trew, who also illustrated Primrose Cumming’s Silver Eagle stories, and are charming.
Finding the book: easy to find, and reasonably priced.
