Joyce Mary Lennon
Another author who started writing very young - in fact she finished writing very young too, unless she wrote under another name.  This book, part of the Country Life library, is the life story of a grey Exmoor pony called Misty.  It has charming illustrations, though the Exmoors don’t look that much like Exmoors.

Finding the book:  Misty is generally cheap, and easy to find as long as you don’t want a dustjacket.  Copies with dustjackets can be pricey.

Misty the Grey Pony

Country Life, 1940, illus Harry Rountree

Reprinted 1941

Misty is a grey Exmoor pony, owned by Lorna.  Misty’s training starts, but
soon hits trouble when she is scared by a car and lames herself. When she’s
three she’s broken in and goes hunting. When she’s five she’s sold to Mr
Nelson’s circus, and then on to pull a baker’s cart. It is not a good home,
but rescue comes when the baker goes over to motor vans and Misty is
bought for Molly.  Molly is a friend of Lorna’s, and so they meet again.
