Rebecca, generally known as Becky - a young stable lad. Main character throughout the whole series, and the series is told from her perspective. During the course of the story she graduates to Assistant Trainer.

Ben Mainwaring also known as "Governor" - the owner (and main trainer) of the racing yard where Becky works.

Red Rag, also referred to as "Monkey" - an 16.3hh chestnut Thoroughbred. Main equine character. Formerly known as Conkers.

Mrs Peak - Red Rag's former owner

Sue Mainwaring - wife of Ben

Ned - grandfather to Becky, with whom she lives (she is an orphan)

Shelley - Ned's sheepdog

Chrissie - a friend of Becky's, non-horsy

Race Against Time
