Pers Crowell

wp2066f2d1.png

Pers Crowell (1910-1965) provided illustrations for many American horse book authors, including George Rutherford Montgomery and William Corbin, and wrote five books himself. His Black Beauty has a lot of verve and dash, and I particularly like the rainswept one, which is wonderfully atmospheric.

His version of Black Beauty was originally published in America by Grosset & Dunlap in 1962, and was printed in Great Britain by World Distributors. It was adapted and abridged by Alice Thorne.
