Stanley Lloyd is probably best known for his illustrations for Enid Blyton’s Mallory Towers series.  He illustrated many pony books too, most notably Primrose Cumming’s The Wednesday Pony.  His Black Beauty is not one of his best.  Beauty seems to have a badly swollen eye in the spine illustration, and the other eye looks to be suffering in the main dustjacket illustration.
